Acid Reflux

Acid reflux refers to the digestive disease of food and acid flowing in the reverse direction.  It is also known as GERD--Gastroesophageal reflux disease.

It is cause for concern because this backwash irritates the esophageal lining eventually causing damage.  Acid reflux can be a significant risk factor for esophageal cancer.

The major symptom of acid reflux are chest pain (heart burn) that occur frequently.

Acid reflux can be caused by a hiatal hernia, overeating at meal time, taking certain medications, being overweight, having a large fibroid in the uterus, and eating and lying down immediately afterwards.  Some acidic foods can also trigger heartburn in some people.

If you suffer from acid reflux more than twice weekly, try and eliminate the causes and see your doctor immediately,
