Hair is not only invaluable as a protective covering of the head, but it gives a finish and imparts unequalled grace to the features which it surrounds. Its descriptions and praises have been sung in the sweetest works by poets through all the ages. Whether in flowing ringlets, chaste and simple bands, graceful braids, shiny afros, straight, long or short, it is equally charming.

Basic Hair Care Taking care of your hair can be a daunting task. It is time-consuming whether you do it yourself or go to a salon. It can be expensive as well. However, if you keep it simple and be gentle, you can have that glorious head of hair that you desire. Focus on healthy hair, not length. For the most part, length is determined by genetics. Also, there are great natural products right in your kitchen, such as olive oil, mayonnaise, eggs, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and avocado.
Common Errors: Not wetting the hair thoroughly before apply shampoo Using more shampoo than necessary when washing their hair Handling the hair too rough; especially when towel drying Not rinsing the hair well enough after conditioning and shampooing Not making the final rinse with an acid (lemon juice/apple cider vinegar) to seal cuticle Using the wrong conditioner or the wrong amount of conditioner Using nylon or unnatural bristle hair brushes Using cheap plastic combs than can rip and tear hair. Using the wrong products based on hair type Clogging the scalp with heavy products such as thick "greases" Not paying attention to the care of the scalp (which is considered the “soil”) Overuse of chemicals, such as relaxers and colorants Abuse of hair appliances, such as hot combs, curling irons, blow dryers, etc. Improper diet which can have the biggest negative effect on healthy hair Shampooing: Begin your hair care routine by shampooing. Choosing the right shampoo is critical and means the difference between a mushy mess from too rich a shampoo to a pile of straw from a too harsh shampoo. We have some great natural shampoos at http://shop.embellir.us.com.
It is important to comb through the hair prior to wetting it. This helps to detangle and loosen dirt. (If you like, even prior to this step, you could apply a pre-conditioning treatment to hair the night before or at least an hour before preparing to shampoo.) Now you can begin wetting the hair and be sure to wet it thoroughly. You want the cuticles raised in preparation for the products to come.
Next, pour the correct amount of shampoo in the palm of you hand and apply it to your scalp not your hair. After working the shampoo onto scalp, massage the scalp, not the hair. Using the balls of your fingers, gently massage and manipulate the scalp (this also helps the scalp to remain flexible for better hair growth). Repeat once or twice more until hair is clean. Rinse out the shampoo completely. Gently towel dry in preparation for conditioner.
If the shampoo process is done properly, you will have clean, nice feeling hair. Conditioning: The next step is to condition the hair. The type of conditioner that you used should be based on the condition of your hair. Is it unprocessed and healthy; is it colored; has it been abused by chemicals? This will determine whether light conditioning or deep conditioning that could require sitting under a hot air source for 15-30 minutes is needed.
After choosing the proper natural conditioning treatment for your hair, pour the suggested amount in the palm of your hand and apply to your hair and scalp and follow package directions. If possible, immediately after applying the condition, using a wide comb or rack, comb through the hair to distribute the conditioner. BE VERY GENTLE. You can use your fingers--the key is make sure that the conditioner is saturated on each strand of hair to its end.
Applying heat with most conditioners is an added plus. Heat further expands the cuticle to allow for deeper penetration of the product. When the conditioner is applied, cover head with a plastic cap, and then sit under the hair dryer or out in the sun for 10-20 minutes. Hot oil conditioning especially needs either a great deal of time or a heat source for best benefits.
After shampooing, rinse, rinse, and rinse. You want to remove any remaining conditioning treat ment from the hair.
Final Rinse & Drying: Your hair now has been shampooed and conditioned and can be vulnerable to breakage. Chemically-treated hair especially has lost a great deal of its "stretchablility" or tensile strength and will break if pulled or stretched too much. BE GENTLE. All hair is vulnerable when wet.
Now it is time to use an acidic rinse on the hair. This is a crucial step. An acidic rinse that contains lemon juice (for light hair) and apple cider vinegar (dark hair) will remove any remaining product residue, help restore the pH level, and seal the cuticle again which will give the hair shine. Find a natural product that suits you at http://shop.embellir.us.com or just make a simple one at home by adding a bit of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to a plastic pitcher of pure water and pour over hair as a final rinse.
Gently dry your hair by wrapping it in a towel for a few minutes or by gently squeezing sections of the hair with the towel. Be gentle. Your hair should feel clean, soft, and conditioned. Gently comb to detangle.
Now, your hair is ready for styling. This means choosing natural, effective styling aids. If you will use heat, apply a protectant to temper damage to the cuticle. If you are blow drying, allow the hair to dry a bit before blowing dry and dry from the root of the hair down. If you are wet setting, be gentle and do not pull hair too tight around rollers.
Remember, the less you do to your hair the better. Hair can be very fragile and on average it only grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per month. Chemical relaxants and hair coloring can cause the most damage to hair. Do them as less as possible. Your mane is your "crowning glory".

A stimulating scalp massage feels so good, and it also facilitates blood flow to the scalp which will nourish the roots. Just apply a small amount of scalp oil to the scalp at least 1-2 hours before shampooing (or overnight) and massage vigorously (call us for the proper way to massage scalp brochure)
Deep conditioning should be done at least monthly. Deep Conditioning will help to combat the day-to-day damage that can be done to hair caused by chemicals and heat.
TIDBIT: Hair grows ¼ to 1 inch per month depending on the individual-and that's during the growth phase! So take care of your locks and be patient when growing them out.
