Confessions of a Doctor
"Most of the patients I see daily in my medical practice are trying to prevent or treat a chronic health problem, lose weight, and preserve vitality. For many years, I felt ill-equipped to help them achieve their goals. After 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency training, and 2 years in a postgraduate fellowship, this is a hard confession to make.
Of course, I was well versed in using medications. Initially, I found it satisfying to watch how rapidly many of these drugs took effect--sometimes lowering blood pressure, blood sugar, or cholesterol levels in a matter of days. However, after several months of practicing medicine out in the world, it became obvious to me (and certainly obvious to my patients) that there were many unintended negative side effects."

"Live each season as it passes; breathe air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each. Let them be your only diet drink and botanical medicines."
