FOOD SAFETY

Eat and drink only organic food whenever possible and feasible
Read all labels on all products at all times.  Be sure to watch expiration dates
Limit or avoid chemical household products
Avoid MSG
Replace commerical salt with sea salt
Avoid eating rancid nuts
Take plenty of Vitamin C to negate nitrites found in meats
Keep peanut butter in the refrigerator
Avoid lead soldered cans of food
Avoid canned pork and beef
Avoid stuffing that turkey; do not thaw turkey out at room temperature
Don't defrost meat on the counter; place in cold water to defrost
Never leave food out for more than 3 hours
Avoid damage cans of food
Be sure to wash top of all cans (food and drink) before opening
Do not eat raw fish or meats of any kind
Inspect or know how clean the place or restaurant where you eat (read below for what to look for)
Wash your hands immediately after handling raw meats and fish to avoid cross contamination
Keep cutting boards clean and have a separate one for cutting meat

Make sure dishes are cleaned with very, very hot water or use the dishwasher

Is the outside clean
Are bathrooms clean
Are dishes and utensils chipped
Are counters and tables dirty
Is there exposed garbage
Is there evidence of insect or rodent contamination
Is there cigarette or cigar smokers around
Is the restaurant located in the basement
Do servers wear caps and/or have clean uniforms
Do the fingers of servers touch your plate, silverware, etc.
Are drinking utensils clean; check your glasses
Are dairy products warm when served
Is there coughing or sneezing around food
Are the floors clean
Is there a separation of duties between server and busboy
Are the menus dirty
Does personnel have visible wounds or injuries
Is the salad bar kept chilled with a sneeze guard, and a separate serving utensil for each food
Be careful of fruit wedges placed on your drinking glass, studies have shown many to have fecal matter on them
