Morning Jasmine Fix

(for final rinse)

Before getting into the shower, mix in a bowl...
 
3 cups sparkling water (san pelligrino, apollonaris)
4 drops jasmine 100% pure essential oil (jasminum grandiflorum)*
Shower as normal.
Using a sea sponge, pat water all over body.
Rinse with a blast of cold water.
Gently pat body dry.
 
*Use can also substitute rose, lavender, lemongass or lemon essential oils for the jasmine.
 
Jasmine, along with rose, is one of the most expensive essential oils in the world.  Jasmine has a strong, yet soft scent.  It has been used in body care for centuries.  A few drops goes a long way; and remember do not use essential oils directly from the bottle on the skin.  Essential oils are extremely powerful and concentrated and irritation could occur.
 
Jasmine promotes relaxation, reduces stress, boosts feelings of confidence, and is great for the skin.  Enjoy this uplifting moment to your shower before you face the world.

The Origin of Beauty
 
Health and beauty come from the same source.  Each of us exists at the center of a huge spiral that originates within the infinite universe or God.  The dimensions of our environmental spiral include the vegetable kingdom, planetary environment (earth, water, and air), solar environment (light, heat, and radiation), and the universe at large (energy and waves).  Over time, these dimensions change into each other and ultimately transform themselves into human life.
 
As everyone knows, a clean natural environment, including fresh air, natural sunlight, fresh vegetation, and clean water make it easier to be naturally healthy and beautiful.
 
The environmental factor over which we have the most control is our daily food.  Daily food and drink are the condensed essence of our larger environment, the material out of which our body and mind are constructed.  Moment to moment, new cells, body fluids, and tissues are formed out of what we eat and drink.  We are in a sense, the result or creation of what we put into our mouths every day.  Our health and appearance are the end products of what we eat.  Therefore, understanding how to balance daily food is essential if we wish to be naturally healthy and beautiful.
 
What’s Make a Person Ugly:  5 Ways to Beauty 

Did you ever notice a stranger from across the room at a party or at a meeting at work who was drop-dead gorgeous, but who, once you got to know him or her better, suddenly wasn't as attractive anymore? It could have been an off-color comment or something about their personality that instantly changed your opinion about their looks.

What about the opposite? Did you ever meet someone who you thought was average-looking, but once you got to know that person, your opinion about his or her physical characteristics changed for the better? That person just got better-looking in your eyes because he or she was nice or charming.

The quirks or qualities of someone's personality can enhance or detract from their physical beauty.  It has been accepted that each of us perceives each person they meet as beautiful or not because of a combination of physical and mental factors; and that certain negative characteristics of one's personality can actually make that person less attractive and less physically appealing. It is not as though they grow warts or actually change their physical characteristics, but their appearance is diminished by their bad behavior, and their beauty decreases in your mind.

Here is a simple concept to increase your level of beauty: make yourself less ugly! Our brains are hard-wired to like nice people and dislike nasty people, and subsequently that's what changes their degree of beauty.

Listed below are five flawed personality traits that I believe can seriously affect the physical beauty of individuals. I have also included the opposite, positive traits that can enhance one's beauty. Let's see if you agree with my choices, and I certainly welcome any additional recommendations.

1) Conceitedness vs. Confidence

Conceited individuals are annoying because they have an excessively high opinion of their abilities, appearance and material things. These people like to show off and brag about their possessions and skills. They tend to be very rude, self-centered, arrogant and extremely insecure.

Confident people are aware of their attributes and do not have the need or desire to tell the world about them. They are comfortable in their own skin and never feel threatened by other individuals' talents or accomplishments. Traits commonly found in confident people include eye contact during conversation; clear, audible speech patterns, without yelling; firm handshake; and tall, straight posture.

2) Grimness vs. Humorousness

I call this characteristic the "party-pooper trait," as grim people seem to be unhappy or angry about everything. They complain and find fault in every person, place or thing and are just no fun to be around. These people are usually gloomy because they have not mastered the ability to be happy with themselves. They are not clinically depressed, just miserable.

Humorous, witty people are entertaining and fun. Often, their humor is self-effacing and good-natured when joking with others. They don't try to be hurtful with their jokes. Humor can be used to defuse angry situations and is always helpful when making a first impression.

3) Selfishness vs. Honest Interest In Others

Selfishness denotes an excessive or exclusive concern with oneself and goes beyond normal self-interest or self-concern. These people demonstrate a disregard for others and openly express their need to devote all their energy to their own agenda. Selfish people have a great, inherent desire to control situations and people and are unwilling to reach compromises with others.

Individuals with honest interest in others are extremely likable. The interest must be genuine; otherwise the charade is obvious and offensive. They have the ability to coax people to talk about themselves or share interesting experiences. They are curious, ask questions and listen intently to the answers. They have the amazing ability to allow people around them to the feel important, a powerful attribute!

4) Cynicism vs. Optimism

These curmudgeons have a dim worldview. Their pessimistic nature often is linked to a failure to achieve personal goals. They are tiring because their cynical views can be depressing.

Optimists look at a difficult situation and realize that things can be much worse. Numerous studies have suggested that optimism is an effective tool in overcoming trauma, illness and depression. It is simply more desirable to spend time with positive individuals.

5) Narcissism vs. Healthy Vanity

Narcissists are like conceited individuals on steroids. They have an inflated sense of their own self-importance and the deep need for admiration. They monopolize conversations and have controlling personalities.

"Healthy vanity" is a positive trait in which a person has a realistically high self-esteem and is modestly confident. People with healthy vanity have a level-headed view of themselves, good and bad.

Each of these personality flaws can be changed or altered in a positive fashion. Doing so will make you a happier, more beautiful person... or should I say "less ugly"?

BRING ON THE BLISS!

While you are running around, cooking, and taking care of others, be sure to take some time out for your self.  Carve out some "me moments" amd create quality time that feeds your spirit.

1.  Create your own private space:  A garden, a room, or a corner in your home--somewhere where you can take a "5-10 minute sabbatical" to rest, sip herbal tea, reflect, and re-energize.

2.  Commune with nature:  Get out of the house for other than shopping!  Go to a nature park or woods near you.  Take the time to touch the earth, look up at the sky, admire the plant life, and count your blessings.

3.  Find some young person this year to mentor in a positive way.  It is a beautiful way to connect with another and to helping to contribute to making the world a better place.

Citrus Holiday Fat Body Scrub

1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup club soda

Mix all together.
Apply in shower with sponge.

Chinese Beauty Regimen

The Chinese women are very serious about their beauty regimens.  They particular believe in protecting and nourishing the waste eliminators of the body such as the kidneys and the liver.  They are very meticulous about taking care of their hands and feet which they moisturize often.

One thing the Chinese people do for health and beauty is sip on white tea.  White tea helps the body's immune system fight off bacteria which can cause serious illnesses.

Another is the use of pearl powder.  A recipe is provided below.  This masque has been found to soothe inflammation and calms redness and skin irritations.

PEARL POWDER MASQUE
Zhen Zhu Mo

1 tbs Pearl Powder
1 egg  yolk
1 tbs honey

Mix all the ingredients together.
Add water if necessary to make a nice paste.
Apply the paste to your face; avoiding the area directly beneath the eyes.
Leave mixture on for 20 minutes.
Rinse with warm water.
Moisturize as usual.

COCONUT OIL FOR HAIR

COCONUT OIL

Whenever I put on coconut oil, it reminds me of holidays in Thailand, but this is definitely not the only reason I use it!

This sweet-smelling, natural oil has antioxidant properties to combats premature aging, absorbs well into the skin and it doesn't leave any residue.

Coconut oil is also a great tool to keep your hair healthy, shiny and strong. The oil increases circulation on the scalp, supplying nutrients to the hair follicles. Just apply it, starting from the scalp and working it out through to the ends. Massage the head for a few minutes to work the oil well into the follicles.  Leave it for 1 hour, then shampoo well and condition.

Yet another great use for coconut oil is as a delicious, gentle exfoliant - just mix it with a little sugar and rub into your body and face.

This Indian supermodel listens to her mother for beauty advice. "She taught me to use organic coconut oil as a treatment.  It makes my hair feel luxurious."


Healthy Nails

Like most body parts, our fingernails rarely measure up to our idea of perfection. Either they are too brittle, too fragile, too short, or too dull. However, healthy and attractive nails needn't be a costly, time-consuming affair involving salon manicures. There are many inexpensive and natural ways to put health, strength, and beauty back into your nails. Golden rule number one is diet. The single most important thing you can do for your nails is to eat right. To feed your nails the nutrients they need, you must eat foods rich in iron, protein, calcium, vitamin B, and potassium. These nutrients can be found in bananas, celery, yogurt, seafood, and dark, leafy greens. Biotin–rich foods such as eggs, soy products, whole grains, and liver are also extremely helpful to nails, along with foods rich in sulfur minerals like apples, cucumbers, grapes, garlic, asparagus, and onions. Foods rich in essential fatty acids--the good fats--such as salmon, tuna, nuts, seeds, flaxseed oil, borage oil, and evening primrose oil help to keep nails shiny and pliable.

Stephanie Tourles, esthetician and author of The Herbal Body Book, says, "For healthy nails, watch your stress level. Stress zaps your body of iron and vitamins A, B, and C-- necessary nutrients for strong, healthy nails. It also reduces the blood flow to your fingertips, leaving your nails looking pale and lifeless. Nothing packs a more nutritious punch than dark green leafy vegetables--foods such as kale, seaweed, bok choy, collard/mustard greens, romaine lettuce, and dandelion leaves. Drinks made from spirulina, chlorella, barley grass, and alfalfa are chock full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein. Try to enjoy at least 2-3 servings of these foods daily and watch your nails blossom with health and vitality." It's also a good idea to drink lots of water. Two liters a day is a healthy yet safe water intake.


Anti-Wrinkle Facial
Rich oils, yeast, honey, and a small amount of apple cider vinegar tone, restore acid balance, and help control the development of wrinkles.

DON'T MOVE YOUR FACE WHILE MASQUE IS ON!
Anti-Wrinkle Facial

YOU WILL NEED:

1 tbs Brewer's yeast (recommend Lewis Labs)
1 tbs Olive oil, extra virgin
1 tsp Pure raw honey
1/2 tsp Apple cider vinegar (recommend Bragg's)
1 egg yolk or 1 tbs sour cream (if skin type is dry)
1 tbs egg white or plain yogurt (if skin type  is oily)

DIRECTIONS:

In a bowl, mix the yeast, oil, honey, and vinegar together until thoroughly mixed.

Add remaining ingredient based on your skin type and mix well.

Spread the mixture on your face and leave on for 20 minutes.

Rinse off with warm water until all of the mixture is removed (7-10 times).  Switch to cold water for the final rinse.

Apply appropriate moisturizer based on your skin type.

Three-Powder Face Masque

This wonderful flour mask stimulates, soothes,tones, nourishes, cleanses, and astringes.  This mask is for all skin types.  If you are allergic to wheat, do not try this mask because it may cause an allergic reaction.

You will need:
2 tbs. buckwheat flour (soba flour)
2 tbs. rice flour
2 tbs soybean flour (kinako)
2 tsp. black sugar or honey

Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a bowl. 

Add enough water to make a paste.

Apply mixture to freshly cleansed face
and leave on for 20 minutes.

Rinse well with warm.

Rinse well with cool.

Apply Toner.

Apply Moisturizer.
